The Governor General is naming over 100 people to the order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.
Among them are former Olympic figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who took home gold medals in 2010 and 2018, and won silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
They are now Members of the Order of Canada, in honour of their figure skating performance and their work to inspire the next generation of skaters.
Former Olympic swimmer Mark Tewskbury is now a Companion of the Order.He won silver at the 1988 Summer Olympics, and gold at the Barcelona games in 1992.
The Governor General is recognizing him both for his athletic achievements and his work toward equity, inclusion and human rights after Tewskbury came out as gay in 1998.
