The Dryden Police Service continues to navigate new waters as they aim to stay involved with the community, as safe as they can, with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now that schools are settling in to their new routines for the year, Chief Doug Palson says they hope to keep their connection with our young community members.
Palson stresses engaging with students is a large part of their community service.
“COVID, like anything else makes it challenging but it’s still important we do that. The community wellness and health piece, the kids and the staff recognize that we’re here.”
Palson explains, they plan to have more of a virtual presence this year, by doing a majority of their presentations by video call.
“We’ve struggled a little bit with the technology pieces, the different formats (for video presentations). We’re still working with that and keeping line communication open with the teachers. There has been some meetings at the high school to go over their safety planning as well.”
One seasonal school event has wrapped up, with students completing the service’s Christmas Card contest.
The winning art will be featured on their company Christmas card and the winner will be announced in the near future.
While COVID-19 has limited community and school activities, the Dryden Police Service enjoyed their involvement at the Dryden Fall Fest.
Chief Doug Palson says they’ll be decorating the police detachment for Dryden’s Christmas Tour of Lights.
“Speaking with the organizers, we’ll probably have several members present at the centre where votes will be casted just so we can assist with traffic control and things like that.”
Palson adds if this event is anything like Fall Fest was, it’s sure to be a huge turnout.
