The provincial government says it has access to almost 1.3 million rapid tests for COVID-19.
Health Minister Christine Elliot says they will use the rapid test in specific areas.
“These tests will help provide timely access to testing in regions with high transmission as well as rural and remote regions with high turnaround times.”
Elliot says the rapid tests will also be distributed to long-term care homes.
Premier Doug Ford calls the screening device a “game changer”, especially if someone tests positive for the virus.
Ford says it’s 93.3% accurate.
“They will help us cut down the turnaround times and we will also use these tests to conduct early investigations into outbreaks.”
He calls the devices “an extra layer of defence” against the coronavirus.
