A siren off in the distance….but getting closer to you every second. You’ve got time to go a little farther.
You’re aware and you know the rule right? Pull over as far as you can, stop your vehicle and let the Emergency responders pass. They have the right-of-way.
They are helping someone. Perhaps someone you know. The quicker they can get to the scene the faster they can do their job. Pay attention to your surroundings while in your vehicle. The side and rear view mirrors. Keep your sound system at a reasonable volume. All of these things will help you react quicker.
The best thing you can do to help is……pull over to the right and stop as soon as you safely can.
Simple stuff right?
In my neighborhood if emergency responders are going by and are needing to have the siren blaring because a motorist in front of them is not paying attention and pulling over – they usually get some help with the siren volume. Whether it be ambulance, fire or police – my golden boy Dexter will often lend an ‘assist’ to the emergency responders. You’ll see and hear that in the video here:
Yeah it’s cute….but serious in another way. The only reason he does this is because the emergency siren is going. Responders needing to clear the way. So for gosh sakes pull over or I might have to join my dog Dexter in the yard every time an emergency responder vehicle needs help to clear traffic.
I’ll be using my ‘voice’. I’ll be on all 4’s beside Dexter, my head tilted back and howling with him! That alone would probably be a little distracting for drivers and get their attention to pull over – if nothing else just to take a picture or stop to call and have another ambulance come to pick me up and ‘take me away ha ha hee hee…’
So there you have it. Just a friendly reminder to do your best to help others. In this case emergency responders.
Thank you!
Now….does anyone have a treat…..for me??
