The former Chief of Defense Staff for Canada is now in charge of a task force to get the COVID-19 vaccine to Ontario residents.
Premier Doug Ford says Rick Hillier has agreed to head up the province’s vaccine distribution effort.
“The task force will leave no stone unturned,” says Ford.
“We will pull out every single stop we have to get ready, to get the vaccine distributed. As premier, you have my word. We will get vaccines to every part of this province when they are ready.”
Ford says the vaccine will likely be ready to roll-out early next year, likely for the most vulnerable residents first.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says based on a per capita formula they are expecting 2.4 million doses of both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccine.
She adds the difficult part of the vaccination process is that each immunization will take two separate shots 21 days apart.
