The leader of the federal NDP says the government needs to act, after projections that the country could see as many as 60,000 COVID-19 cases per day by December.
Jagmeet Singh says the Liberals have made it more difficult to access financial supports now that we’re in the second wave.
“We know that in the first wave of COVID-19, when we helped people stay at home, it worked, and we were able to flatten the curve,” Singh says.
Singh adds the federal parties also need to take more steps to keep essential workers safe. He says the advice to stay home doesn’t mean much to an essential worker or someone who can’t afford not to work.
“What I’m saying very clearly is that we need to follow the public health advice, but the public health advice can’t be put forward without the supports needed to follow that advice,” he points out.
He also blames the Liberals for ongoing outbreaks in long-term care homes.
