Ontario is setting another record for the most new COVID-19 cases in a single day, including some in the Northwest.
Another 1,588 tests came back positive by the end of the day on Friday, just a few cases more than the province’s previous record set last weekend.
The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting four new COVID-19 cases in the Kenora area. All of them are connected to previously identified cases, and don’t appear to be associated with an outbreak at Benedickson Court.
There is also one new case in the District of Rainy River.
Provincially, Southern Ontario is still grappling with most of the new cases.
“Locally, there are 522 new cases in Peel, 450 in Toronto and 153 in York Region,” Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted this morning. “There are 1,363 more resolved cases and nearly 46,700 tests completed.”
There were also 21 more deaths reported, bringing the province up to 3,472.
In the region, there are 65 active cases in the Thunder Bay District, and 17 in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area.
