An exciting community event is coming to Dryden just in time for the holidays.
Kinsmen member Ryan Graham and Domtar’s Dianne Loewen were guests on the CKDR morning show today to announce Dryden’s Christmas Tour of Lights on December 11.
Loewen explains how the COVID-19 safe event will work.
“We would like to invite residents to light up their homes and businesses to celebrate Christmas. We want to show off these displays, so folks are invited to register their displays on the CKDR website in advance of our tour. The night of our tour, residents are encouraged to drive through the city and outlying area to check out these wonderful displays, we know were going to see.”
After you tour the lights, Loewen says residents are invited to vote between 6:30pm and 8:30pm for the best displays.
“Come to the parking lot at the Centre for a COVID safe drive by event where people can enter the parking lot, they can cast their ballots from the comfort of their cars and vote for their favourites displays, pick up a treat and we’re also asking residents to drop off donations for Christmas Cheer, as well as for the Food Bank non-perishable food items.”
Domtar will give out prizes for participants driving through and display winners.
Graham explains further about their contributions to Christmas Cheer and the Food Bank.
“We want to make sure everyone has a happy holiday season, so in doing that Domtar and the Kinsmen have been looking at matching the donations made that are made that night as well.”
Graham talks about display categories and how you can register.
“We’ve got three categories. One, city in town display. Then we have a rural display. The businesses have reached out as well, asking how they can get involved (so that’s a category too). (To register) you’re going to go to our favourite homepage, ckdr.net where there’s going to be a banner that says Dryden Christmas Tour of Lights. Fill out your registration information right there and that will get sent to us.”
Loewen says they wanted to do something to bring the community together, in replacement of the Santa Clause Parade.
“Let’s light up Dryden and make sure we can have the city bright and wonderful so we can have great Christmas celebration. COVID free, keep it safe and allow everyone to enjoy the festive season, as well as support the Food Bank and Christmas Cheer.”
Once registrations are collected, a guide will be made available on our website ahead of the tour December 11.
