Dan MacKinnon joined the army in 1943 at the age of 17 in spite of his mother’s wishes.
He served with distinction as a lance corporal with the Lincoln Welland Regiment in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Dan saw action as part of the Liberating Forces in 1944 and later in the Occupation Forces assigned at one point as a jail guard for notorious war criminal Kurt Meyer.
Dan was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 55yrs.
He and his wife Margarette worked and lived in Dryden where they raised four children Larry, Danalyn, Shayne and Scott. He was always very proud of his family, his community and those who served our country.
He passed away 01 November 2004 in Dryden
