Roy Cain was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan and raised in Rainy River, ON.
This picture was taken in Crossfield, Alberta where he did his training.
He joined the Air Force in Winnipeg in 1941. He served as a Air Gunner in the UK, Italy and Egypt.
His plane was shot down over Italy.
Roy was captured and put into a prisoner of war camp. Back at home he was thought to be missing in action. Eventually he was able to start a fire as a diversion and escaped. The Italian underground helped him to get back to England. He was the only one of his crew to have survived.
He was discharged in 1945.
He lived in Eagle River and raised his family there. He passed away in 1999. (from Laurel Adams)
