The Ministry of Education has announced funding for a replacement school in Savant Lake.
The school will be built on the existing property and is scheduled to open in the 2023-2024 school year.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board will be looking at modular and prefabricated construction opportunities to meet the opening target.
Premier Doug Ford says the government is taking action to provide students with modern, technologically connected and accessible classrooms.
“Every parent wants their child to have the access to the best education. To the best teachers and classrooms with an excellent learning environment.””
Ford adds “Our schools provide a solid foundation for our young people for their life-long success and we have to provide a solid foundation for our schools by making the necessary investments to rebuild and renovate.”
He notes “Our schools are the heart of our community. When we invest in our schools, we’re investing in our future. In the next generation of engineers, teachers, scientists, trades people. For me it’s one of the best investments our government can make.”
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says “Hard-working families in Savant Lake deserve access to high quality education opportunities and our government is delivering on their behalf.”
The new building is expected to have the highest energy efficient design of all facilities in the public school board.
Students and families can also look forward to a school playground redesign, new outdoor learning opportunities and a multipurpose area.
Savant Lake Public School Principal Holly Szumowski says “To see this type of investment in rural education for our students, staff, families, and community is exciting. We look forward to involving our school community in the process of building a new school.”
KPDSB Director of Education Sherri-Lynn Pharand adds “We are very excited for the opportunity for a new build in Savant Lake. Our commitment to our students is to provide the best possible educational opportunities in the best possible environment.”
