George Huckell was from Dinorwic and was a tank driver in the 6th Armoured Regiment, 1st Hussars. R.C.A.C.6th Armd Regt.

On D-Day, the Hussars in their Sherman Tanks were among the very few Allied Regiments to make their objective.
The following day, they actually had to pull back as they were too far into the German lines.
George was killed in battle as his tank advanced inland from Juno Beach five days after D-Day. He was killed in action June 11 and is buried at BENY-SUR-MER CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY, REVIERS He was 31. Canadian forces lost 61 tanks in the battle of Le Mensil Patry that day. The 6th Hussars took very heavy losses in that particular action.
Newspaper story advising that George Huckell of Dinorwic was reported missing in June of 1944. Sadly, Trooper Huckell would not return home. He was killed in action June 11 at 31 years of age. He was the driver of a Canadian Sherman that was knocked out, one of two crew who were killed.

George Huckell is among the 2,032 Canadians buried at the Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian War Graves Cemetery, Reviers at Calvados, France.
