Things may be a bit different in schools this year because of COVID 19 restrictions, but New Prospect is making the most of it.
Even though the annual ‘Turkey Trot’ was cancelled, students still wanted to train and run, just like in previous years.
So, staff coached students every week and organized their first ever ‘Hawk Trot’ race at the school.
Grade 4 student, Parul Das comments on the differences this year due to COVID 19.
“It was different because we had to do it right at the school and not at the golf course. We competed against kids in our own school instead of all of the other schools. We had to remember to social distance in warmup and when running.”
Parul and all the students trained hard for 6 weeks.
“I trained 4 days a week as I went to many of the extra practices my coach gave us. It was fun because we had so much fresh air. It was great that we got to spend the whole morning outside.”
Parul commented that she “liked the cheering from the other students because it was boosting me up and it gave me more energy. I almost quit because it was hard, but I felt good inside because I ran 1.5 km.”
The whole school was able to safely take part in the event, while students and staff cheered on the runners, despite the cold and snowy weather.
