The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and local residents are being asked to “Dress for the Cause”.
The Breast Cancer Society of Canada has launched the “Dress Up Their Lives” fundraising and awareness campaign, encouraging you to be creative and take part in different weekly decorating activities.
You are asked to donate to breast cancer research with weekly Dress Up themes, share your progress on social media and challenge your friends and family.
Week 1: Dress Up your Door (ex. House, office, doggy door, car, garage)
Week 2: Dress Up your Desk (ex. Home office, company office, or any workspace)
Week 3: Dress Up your Best___(ex. Prized possession, pets, cars, cottages, boats)
Week 4: Dress Up Yourself (ex. Pink, pink, pink! Clothes, Halloween costumes)
Society CEO Kimberly Carson says there’s a number of ways to get involved and donate.
“Our dressforthecause.ca, so you can sign-up online. And then October 1 we are going to launch our app and on our app we are going to have all kinds of great filters that you can add. You can encourage your friends to sponsor you. You can encourage your friends to participate.”
Carson stresses this is an important initiative as the disease doesn’t slow down for anything, not even COVID-19.
“Breast cancer is still a big issue in Canada. We see 14 Canadian women a day die of breast cancer and we know that research can help save lives. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.”
The campaign has raised over $10-million over roughly 30-years.
