Ontario is clamping down on social gatherings as we see a second day with over 400 new COVID-19 cases.
Health Minister Christine Elliott announced this morning that indoor “unmonitored” events and gatherings have been reduced to ten people, down from the previous limit of 50.
Outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people had been allowed, but that’s been reduced to 25 people.
The new limits will not apply to events or gatherings held in staffed businesses and facilities, like bars, restaurants, cinemas, convention centres, banquet halls, gyms, places of worship, recreational sporting or performing art events.
Existing rules, including public health and workplace safety measures for these businesses and facilities, continue to be in effect.
“This action is based on the increasing case counts that we are seeing,” Minister Elliott says. “As we continue to closely monitor the spread of this virus, we will never hesitate to take further action to protect the health and well-being of all Ontarians.”
The latest cases include one that was announced yesterday in the Dryden and Red Lake area.
There were no new deaths in this morning’s update. The majority of the cases are in Ottawa, York, Peel, and Toronto.
There are nearly 2,881 active cases right now.
