The OPP Dryden detachment is recognizing the Dryden Fire Service for their outstanding efforts and commitment to serving the community.
A letter of commendation was presented to Chief Rob Grimwood and members of the Dryden Fire Service at City Hall on Wednesday.
The letter acknowledges the team’s efforts in one specific incident, that happened in the early morning of Sunday, July 26th.
Dryden Fire Service responded to a tragic incident that resulted in a Wabigoon resident’s death.
OPP called on the Dryden Fire Service to assist in the recovery of her remains.
Even though the community of Wabigoon is outside of city limits, OPP say the Dryden Fire Service responded without hesitation.
The letter of commendation says: “The willingness and expeditious nature of the Dryden Fire Service’s response to this tragic event was greatly appreciated by OPP members and family at the scene. The level of professionalism, expertise and compassion that was displayed by your members throughout the recovery mission was second to none, providing grieving family and Wabigoon community members relief from their unfortunate anguish that morning.”
Fire Chief Rob Grimwood says fire fighters never do what they do for the recognition, but it always feels good.
“Fire fighters never do it for the recognition, but it always does feel good. All our fire fighters in Dryden are volunteer and they have trained thousands and thousands of hours already this year to be able to respond to all different types of emergencies. The recognition that we’re on the right path and all that training is paying off, it does mean a lot to our men and women.”
