Gailmarie Anderson was the latest guest at the Dryden Rotary Club’s the virtual meeting on Wednesday.
Anderson has been part of Rotary since 1998 and was a host family for exchange students from all over the world for 15 years.
Living and working in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Anderson’s latest role is the District Governor for 46 area Rotary clubs.
Anderson says there’s been so many opportunities.
“You meet so many wonderful people all lover the world, let alone our district and you have some amazing experiences. There’s lot’s of training sessions. It enables you to feel really good about being a Rotarian because you’re part of such a huge community of people, that are all helping other people.”
Anderson adds it truly is a family of Rotary and that she’s enjoyed being part of the district team so far.
Even in a pandemic, Anderson notes how Rotary clubs have continued to help in their communities.
“We have to use every opportunity that we can, to be able to help improve the lives of people all around the world. Everything we do opens another opportunity for someone, somewhere. Of course in Dryden, you know that’s true for you local projects but it’s also true throughout the world.”
Many praises and thanks were given to Dryden Rotary club members for their involvement with helping Red Lake fire evacuees.
The next Rotary district conference is set for May 13-16, 2021 in Melfort, Saskatchewan.
The comittee is planning for it to be a hybrid conference, with both in person and online activities.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves, Anderson says the conference can be adapted to be fully online if necessary.
