Kenora riding MP Eric Melillo says the Liberal government is throwing the country into chaos to cover up their own corruption.
Liberal Finance Minister Bill Morneau resigned Monday night, after coming under fire for his involvement in the government’s WE scandal.
Prime Minister Trudeau followed by calling for a break for Parliament.
Trudeau says if the Governor General approves his plan to prorogue Parliament, he’ll come back with a Speech from the Throne on September 23rd to set a course for the coming months.
Melillo says he’s shocked at this decision by Prime Minister Trudeau.
“Right now, Canada needs stable leadership more than ever – but Liberal scandals have thrown this government into chaos,” Melillo said.
This move would lock out Opposition MPs, putting a stop to investigations into the government’s WE scandal.
The shut-down would also prevent the Opposition from fixing the government’s pandemic response programs.
Melillo added that Liberal games to evade accountability are doomed to fail: “Justin Trudeau needs to stop playing hide-and-seek and get back to work.
The federal cabinet change occurred Tuesday afternoon with Chrystia Freeland sworn in as the new Finance Minister, but also keeping her role as Deputy Prime Minister.
This makes Freeland the first woman in the Finance Minister role.
Freeland does hand over her some of her responsibilities to Dominic LeBlanc.
LeBlanc has been sworn in as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
