Rain and improved weather conditions have allowed Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews get a handle on Red Lake Fire 49.
Information Officer Chris Marchand says excellent progress was made on the blaze Friday and overnight.
The fire is still listed at 552 hectares and is burning 3 kilometres away from the Red Lake townsite.
However the Ministry says the fire is no longer considered out of control and is now being held.
Residents are still urged to stay away from the community and travel restrictions and an emergency order remain in place for the entire Red Lake area.
The evacuation order also remains in place until further notice.
