Starting this weekend, gyms and other sports facilities can welcome more people.
Beginning at 12:01 Saturday morning, many sport, fitness and recreation facilities will be allowed to host up to 50 people for each indoor sport or fitness room, as long as each person is at least two metres apart.
This applies to health clubs, community centres, multi-purpose facilities, arenas, exercise studios, yoga and dance studios and any other fitness facilities that can follow the physical distancing rules and other local health regulations.
“Many of our gyms and fitness centres are owned and operated by small business owners and they are struggling,” says Premier Doug Ford. “To help them get back on their feet and hire back staff, we are making these changes so they can serve more people.”
The province is also investing $8-million in amateur sports through the Ontario Amateur Sport Fund. It will allow sports organizations to keep operating and let athletes get back to training.
