The Northwestern Health Unit is encouraging everyone to be aware of forest fire smoke that could spread to other communities from Red Lake.
Red Lake has been evacuated, but other communities in northwestern Ontario will likely experience smoke in the air.
The NW Health Unit says to limit the time you are exposed to forest fire smoke, as it can be harmful to your health.
Those most at risk include:
- children
- the elderly
- pregnant women
- people with heart or lung conditions
- those with active or physical jobs.
The health unit reminds you to keep windows and doors closed, use air filters and reduce physical activity.
If you develop a new or worsening cough, trouble breathing, chest pains, significant weakness or fatigue, please seek medical care as soon as possible.
