The Dryden Royal Canadian Legion continues to promote its Go Fund Me campaign.
The Legion has been hampered by a COVID-19 shutdown and is looking for community support to keep the doors open.
Cyril Ryan was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Wednesday and says there is some government money out there but it’s not enough to cover rent and the loss of revenue.
“We do have some government people working with us to help us out, try and get some funding. Apparently there is some out there for legions and I know Sue, our manager, she’s working hard to get every nickel and time that she possibly can.”
Ryan notes they are paying $3,500 a month just for the building.
He stresses they currently have no money coming in.
Ryan states the Legion has given a lot back to the community.
“Over the years we have given thousands of dollars to our youth, our vets, our schools, our hospital, Food Bank, and on and on and on.”
Ryan says they appreciate all the support from Legion goers and donators and adds a social, community breakfast and weddings, everyone has their memories at the Dryden Legion.
There will be a thermometer at Lotto One to show how much the Legion has raised.
The Ontario government says it will invest $83 million to support Royal Canadian Legion branches, non-profit organizations and child and youth programs as the province reopens following months of shutdown due to the coronavirus.
The money from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will see grants of up to $150,000 awarded to organizations looking to deliver “vital programming” to their communities during the pandemic.
