The Treaty Three Police Service has outlined plans for the Spirit of Hope program.
The province is providing $300,000 from their Proceeds of Crime fund.
Deputy Chief Jeff Skye says the money will help them target human trafficking in the Treaty Three area.
“Women are sacred and they cannot be abused anymore,” states Skye.
“The whole hope of this is to bring back their spirit that has been taken away by some of those individuals that continually try to hurt them.”
Skye says the funding will allow them to hire a coordinator for the three year program.
Police Chief Kai Lui adds the goal is to provide supports for women and girls that don’t currently exist.
“There isn’t help to either prevent them from getting into being victims of human trafficking or support to get them out of that lifestyle,” says Lui.
“This is going to allow us to create a number of programs working with our social agencies to address the issue and help victims and support them.”
