Kimberly Elizabeth Meawasige “Gegishgonebic”
January 14, 1980 – July 26, 2020
On Sunday, July 26, 2020, Kimberly Elizabeth Meawasige (nee Verbonac), loving wife, mother, sister, auntie, friend and integral community member, passed away at the age of 40.
Kimmy, as she was called by all that knew her, was born January 14, 1980 in Dryden, Ontario, Canada to Donald Verbonac and Wendy Zoccole. She resided and was raised in the close-knit hamlet of Wabigoon. In Wabigoon her legacy will continue to live on, in the many people she had left her impression through fostering children, volunteer work, social events, and work.
Kimmy had a passion for life, and that passion carried over to how she interacted with everyone around her, her smile was one of her greatest features, it reflected the great motherly love she had for everyone. She possessed so much love she took on fostering children and was mother to many children in the surrounding communities. The foster children she loved as her own learned life lessons, and she gave them the tools to use on their healing journeys in life.
She had many hobbies, and was a social butterfly; she played bingo, loved cribbage and comradery found while playing darts and board games with family; poker was another fun staple of entertainment especially during blueberry season where she would toil in the sun all day and bet her earnings on poker games lasting into the wee hours of the morning. She hosted many family get-togethers, spoiling everyone with her wonderful cooking and generosity. She was confidante to many people, her husband, her sister in law, her sister, and many friends in the area. She will be missed by everyone who shared her love and life. Knowing her legacy lives on in the many children’s lives she helped shape, and all the lives she helped along the way, her memory will live on.
Kimberly was preceded in death by her father, Donald Verbonac. She is survived by her loving husband John, and their children; Matthew (19), Jaydon (17), Charlie (3) and Greyson Paypom (14); her mother Wendy Zoccole, sister Crystal Verbonac (Shawn), brother Michael Verbonac along with numerous nieces, nephews and special cousins.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 11 a.m. until time of service at the Wabigoon Metis Centre.
A Traditional Service will take place on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Wabigoon Metis Centre with Elder Leonard Sky and Pastor Jake Letkeman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Wabigoon Cemetery.
