Concrete action is being taken to try and make Kenora a safer place.
“Bear Clan Patrol” has started a new branch in Kenora in a year-long pilot program assisted by a number of partners, including the Kenora Chiefs Advisory, the Kenora OPP Detachment and the Kenora District Services Board.
The program will be modelled off the Bear Clan Patrol in Winnipeg and will aim to prevent crime in a non-violent, non-threatening, non-judgemental and supportive way.
The group will be conducting patrols around the clock, seven days a week.
1.2 million dollars in funding for the project is coming from the KDSB ($400,000) and the Provincial Government ($800,000).
