The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is issuing a mandatory mask order for indoor public spaces.
It will be taking effect on Friday, July 24th for all areas the Health Unit serves. There is no word whether the Northwestern Health Unit will follow suit. The NWHU’s latest update on Stage 3 re-opening says masks are “strongly recommended” in enclosed public spaces.
The Thunder Bay Health Unit says with the region entering phase 3 of re-openings, it is issuing instructions to employers, business owners and operators to have a mask policy in place requiring the use of a mask or face covering for anyone entering into their premises.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille explains, “As we continue to reopen, there will be increased opportunities for people to have closer contact with one another in enclosed spaces where transmission (of the cornavirus) is more likely to happen.
She adds her Health Unit is taking these precautions now in advance of an expected increase in the virus sometime this fall.
