A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the region.
This includes Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Kenora, Fort Frances and Atikokan.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts.
Hazards… Isolated wind gusts of 90 km/h and nickel size hail
Timing… This afternoon and into the early evening
Summary… Scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop across the watch area this afternoon. The primary threat from stronger cells will be locally severe wind gusts. A few instances of nickel size hail are also possible.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
