Dryden’s Ben Hackl is headed west to continue his hockey career.
Hackl has committed to the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as part of a trade with the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
Hackl played in five games with the Ice Dogs in the COVID-19 shortened season and had three points in five games.
In an interview posted on the Dauphin Kings Twitter page Hackl stated “Last year I got to play a bigger role when I did when I was 16. They put me on one of their top lines and I was able to get some points and help them out. Too bad the season ended short there. We weren’t able to have out playoffs but I was going pretty good there before COVID hit.”
Hackl says he’s looking forward to joining the Kings.
“This year I want to come in and make a difference. I want to be a difference maker and I’m coming in in shape and ready to go. I just want to come in there and help the team anyway I can.”
He joins former teammates Dylan Winsor and Bryson McDonald.
Hackl was the face of the Kenora Thistles for three seasons as he suited up for 114 games and amassed 89 points.
