It’s hot, it’s going to get hotter, and there’s no let up in sight.
Environment Canada says we’re in for a ‘long duration heat event’ that could last a week or more.
The heat warning covers all of our area from Ignace in the east through to Winnipeg, Red Lake in the north all the way down to the US border.
Daytime high temperatures near 30 with humidex values in the mid to high 30’s are expected for the foreseeable future. Overnight lows near 18 are expected providing little relief from the heat.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category.
Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Try to stay cool, drink plenty of water and please remember to give pets lots of water and don’t leave them in parked cars.
