There is cautious optimism about COVID-19’s steady decline in Canada.
Health Minister Patty Hajdu is reluctant to predict what will happen in the coming months but admits we are going in the right direction.
“Even some of the more persistant jurisdictions, Ontario and Quebec for example that have really struggled, we see a real decline in the speed of new cases and a real understanding of how to put out those fires quickly,” notes Hajdu.
The health minister admits it be will careful going as the economy reopens adding “We are still really are in the beginning stages of living with COVID. I think now we really want to see people continue with those public health measures that are keeping them safe.”
Meantime, do not expect Canada to change physical distancing rules during the pandemic.
While Britain is reducing the required space between people to one and a half metres, Hajdu is not anxious to change our two metre rule saying “It’s not really an area we are interested in exploring yet.”
The health minister notes science has shown that two metres is the safest distance.
