Concern is being raised by the huge increase in fire deaths in Ontario so far this year.
Steve Wilson the Assistant Deputy Fire Marshal with the Office of the Fire Marshal says from January the first until June 23rd there has been an increase of 85 per cent in the number of deaths compared to last year at the same time.
“It’s too early to identify any specific trends but you know certainly with COVID-19 there are a lot more people working from home,” notes Wilson.
So far in Ontario 61 people have been killed in fires with careless smoking and careless cooking the main causes. Last year at this time the death toll was 37.
