The Township of Ignace officially has a new mayor.
Penny Lucas was a first term town councillor when Don Cunningham suddenly resigned back in April, and says it’s doubly challenging because of COVID-19.
“We had to learn how to use Zoom and Go To Meeting and everything else so we can do video conferencing, says Lucas, “We had to learn really quickly so that’s been a challenge.”
She says while there finances seem to be holding steady during the pandemic, they don’t know when they will be able to pass the 2020 budget.
“Like a lot of communities we don’t have our budget yet even though we’re halfway through 2020. We’re really working at getting that sorted out and organized and completed in the not too distant future.”
Lucas tells us that despite the pandemic, there are some things she likes about meeting virtually.
“I’m actually finding it enjoyable because I’m finding there’s different people joining that didn’t come in person which gives everything a different perspective.”
