A young Dryden boy has managed to inspire others to get out and stay active during COVID-19 shutdowns.
8-year-old Quinn Clarke successfully executed the first Tour de Dryden Junior event, which saw kids go out on their bikes to take pictures or selfies in front of a Dryden landmark.
For 5 days Quinn would post on Facebook a daily mission and if you completed all 5 missions, your name was entered to win a prize.
He says about 40 kids accepted the challenge.
“I was thinking of the Tour de France. So I was thinking maybe we should have a Tour de Dryden. So originally it was going to be a race.”
Quinn had to improvise because of physical distancing and group restrictions and came up with this innovative idea.
His Mom, Vanessa, says it was like watching a lemonade stand turn into a corner store.
“I’m super proud of him. He had that idea. In the truck he just said ‘I think we should have a Tour de Dryden’ and I kinna brushed it off. Then I walked into the room where we have our computer and he was designing a website. So I thought I better start helping him out here!”
Vanessa adds “It’s been pretty amazing seeing everybody out on their bikes around town every day. We had so many people. Like each day we had new sponsors. People just offering to donate prizes and give us a little money to buy prizes for the kids that participated.”
15 sponsors came forward to donate items and funds.
Quinn says “I’d like to thank all of the people who participated and all of our sponsors.”
He says he plans to run the event next year.
