The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is looking at every possibility for what the 2020-2021 school year may look like.
Director of Education Sherri-Lynne Pharand says they have a team of senior administrators, school based leaders and managers in place to develop a reopening plan.
“Considering what the enhanced protocols are that we may need to consider in order for students to be safe in their learning environment at school. And then we are also working to consider what are the gaps that exist in learning.”
Pharand notes “We are taking a look at every moment from when a student steps on a school bus until their dismissed at the end of the day. And we are walking through the day both elementary and secondary.”
Pharand stresses the situation changes daily and the Ministry of Education and health officials continue to provide them with some direction.
She says virtual learning will continue and they have purchased global hotspots through Tbaytel to connect students who previously didn’t have Internet.
Teachers have been mailing packages and assignments and following up with those who don’t have access to the Internet.
