The Northwestern Health Unit is out with some tips to help you when you visit the grocery store during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Registered Dietitian Julie Slack says it’s all about planning.
“Take a peak at what you already have in your cupboards. Think about how many people you have in your house and then sort of plan accordingly that way. You want to make sure you have storage for all of the foods.”
Slack says you don’t want to go crazy with excess bulk products but you do want to ensure you have enough food to comfortably feed everyone
She says there should be no restrictions on what you should and shouldn’t be eating right now.
Slack recommends purchasing frozen products, fruits and veggies and canned goods.
She also suggests grains, specifically crackers and cereals, as well as high protein items.
Slack also says “Use take-out or go to those options to relieve stress or whatever else. Depending on your situation, I think we need to really take care of yourself. Enjoy eating with that immediate family that you are with. Enjoy those family meals, this is the time.”
