Premier Ford isn’t mincing words when it comes to landlords of properties with struggling businesses occupying them.
Ford says landlords are trying to test him when it comes to them not applying to a government rent assistance program.
“That’s going to be the wrong thing to do, we’ll give it a few more days and then we’ll act. So, although the landlords out there, you want to play hardball, we’ll play hardball then. I’m going to protect the little guy, I’m going to protect all the little businesses out there that are struggling,” Ford said.
The Commercial Rent Assistance Program is a federal and provincial government partnership that has the government pay 50 percent of commercial rent with landlords and tenants coughing up 25 percent of the cost.
Ford also suggested the State of Emergency being extended to the end of June wouldn’t hinder or slow the process of reopening the economy.
