Hundreds of protesters were outside the White House last night, speaking out against the killing of an unarmed black man in Minneapolis.
Reuters News is reporting the Secret Service put the White House on lock down Friday night, as sometimes violent demonstrations continue across the country.
The nationwide protests broke out after George Floyd’s death on Monday, after a white Minneapolis Police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck while taking him into custody. The officer has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. Charges are expected for the other three officers involved.
Earlier in the day, protesters began breaking down barriers at the American capital.
In Minneapolis, a curfew was imposed for 8 o’clock Friday night, but past midnight, multiple media outlets reported protesters were still out. Police eventually moved the crowds back using tear gas and rubber bullets, and reports say the state is planning to send in the National Guard. Minnesota’s Commissioner of Public Safety adds this now global event has seen numerous arrests and many police officers hurt.
In Atlanta, part of CNN’s headquarters was damaged, while earlier a CNN reporter was arrested, but later released. The mayor of Atlanta urged everyone to go home.
