Two members of the Dryden Eagles have been named to the Winnipeg High School Football League’s 2020 Senior Bowl team.
There’s no game this year due to COVID-19 but the league felt it necessary to make the selections and acknowledge the dedication and contributions of the graduating players.
Nick Pinette and Koen Taylor represent the Eagles program.
Head Coach Geoff Zilkalns says Pinette played his normal Defensive Halfback position and was their most consistent tackler.
He ended his career with 76 tackles from the secondary.
Zilkalns says Pinette also helped on offence as a running back and provided the tough inside push they lacked.
He led the team in rushing and scoring with 5 touchdowns on 315 yards rushing.
His 82 yard pass reception in the semi-final against Miles Mac was a highlight.
Zilkalns says Koen Taylor led the team in quarterback sacks from his defensive end spot and set the edge well against the run.
He ended his career in 12th place on the DHS career sack list and also tallied 3 fumble recoveries in his 3 years on defence.
Zilkalns adds Taylor willingly helped out at the left tackle spot on the offensive line and stayed on the field for long stretches of time without a break.
He was also active on all special teams, including some punting.
