We could see random testing for COVID-19 across Ontario.
Premier Doug Ford says the approach that started in Windsor will be expanded starting with certain sectors this weekend.
“We’re going into the front-line healthcare workers, we’re going to test the asymptomatic and symptomatic people there, so just on-going testing. I said we’re going to ramp it up, we’re going to ramp it up. Then we’re going to go into communities where there’s, as I say, the hot spots,” Ford says.
Provincial officials add they are looking for a suitable contact-tracing app to make it easier to track the spread of COVID-19 cases.
Ford feels he’ll be able to put restrictions back in place, should he need to due to increased daily COVID-19 cases in Ontario.
The Premier says he doesn’t think people will give him trouble now that they’ve had a taste of freedom.
“I have all the confidence in the world in the fourteen-and-a-half million people [in Ontario]. We’re here in this position right now because of all the great work from the people listening to the Chief Medical Officer and the protocols,” Ford adds.
Ontario is still seeing around 400 new cases every day, with 441 confirmed as of Thursday May 21.
