Questions such as “why now” linger in the minds of people in Nova Scotia following the death of Snowbirds Captain and Halifax native Jennifer Casey.
Acadia Broadcasting’s Emma Taylor is the morning news anchor for Country 100.7 in Bridgewater, and tells us this tragedy has really hit home for many people.
“We can’t take anymore. Just praying for healing, and just having a lot of trouble processing it,” notes Taylor.
Captain Casey’s plane went down over the weekend in Kamloops, BC, a crash that injured her pilot Captain Richard MacDougall.
This event is causing many people to deeply reflect, something Taylor adds has helped her realize how quickly daily living can be just snatched away.
“And I think that is what is especially hard to understand. The shootings, the same thing… you’re just going about your daily life, and you just never know what is coming,” says the morning news anchor.
Captain Casey was a former radio news anchor in Halifax. Taylor points out she is a former member of Canada’s military, a community also hit hard by this tragedy.
“This has hit people especially hard because it is just one in a series of tragedies that have been happening. Starting with the mass shooting, and then the helicopter crash in Greece,” notes Taylor.
She adds many people can find it difficult to find some sort of solace since everyone is still somewhat isolated due to COVID-19.
