The popular French Immersion program will be back next year at New Prospect School in Dryden.
Instructor Celeste Harrison says they welcome students with no prior French in JK, SK and Grade 1.
“We have had many students join in SK and Grade 1 and are thriving. After Grade 1 they can join if they have previously been enrolled in another French Immersion program.”
Harrison adds “Parents do not need to speak or understand French. French Immersion is designed specifically for families whose first language is not French. We encourage parents to support you child by continuing to build oral language and reading skills in their first language.”
Instructor Halle Lobreau says supports are available to ensure all students are successful in French Immersion.
“Students in French Immersion have access to the exact same supports as those in the English speaking stream. Saying this we have a primary reading intervention teacher, speech language support, and support from our special education resource teacher.”
Lobreau adds students will be learning the same material as those in the English speaking stream.
Instructor Candace Nyberg says a wide range of programs are available to all of their French Immersion students.
They include:
-Maker Space and STEAM approach to learning.
-Outdoor/Forest School Teacher and access to an abundance of natural landscapes.
-School Gardens
-Approach to self regulation and unique Ready to Learn Rooms.
-Gentle entry to Kindergarten and a soft start program.
Nyberg adds “Most children enrol with little to no French. Immersing them in the French language 100% of the day allows them to build a strong foundation in the French language that will support their learning along the way.”
