Thunder Bay Police say they continue to investigate the April 27th murder of 14 year old Kayleigh Ivall.
Police say a 14 year old girl is in custody and has been charged with first degree murder.
She is scheduled to make a second court appearance on Thursday.
Detective Inspector John Fennell can’t say whether there could be another arrest in the case.
“Right now the officers are still going through the evidence. As you can imagine there’s a great deal of forensic evidence still outstanding as it takes time to go through.”
Fennell adds “I do know that the detectives used the word to me ‘multiple tips’. So that gives me the impression that there’s been quite a few over the investigation so far.”
Fennell notes an autopsy has been completed.
“I can’t speak to the cause of death yet because it’s still ongoing and we’re still working with the Centre of Forensic Sciences regarding that. The reports are still outstanding. Even though pathology has occurred, there’s still a process where doctors review it to make sure that the findings are accurate before they’re put forward.”
Meantime, the grieving mother of Kayleigh has posted a public letter to the “person or persons who is responsible for her daughter’s death.”
The post on Facebook is addressed to the “monster(s)” responsible for Kaliegh Ivall’s death.
“I want to make sure you understand exactly what you have done. When you robbed Kayleigh of her life you created a living nightmare for me and my family. Because of you I will never hear singing coming Kayleigh’s room again. I will never have the constant sound of music drifting from her room. I won’t see her graduate grade 8. I won’t hear about her first day of high school. I will never have pictures of her high school grad to put on my wall. I will never see her get married or hold any children she may have had. The list of things you have taken from me is endless.”
The post goes on to say that, “every morning I wake up to this nightmare that is now my life, my life without my Kayleigh. I hope what you have done will haunt you for the rest of your life.”
Meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
