The Northwestern Health Unit continues to closely monitor COVID-19 cases.
There are no active cases, with 16 already resolved.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Gemmill says “It’s possible that we’ve dodged the bullet of the first wave. I don’t want to say that for sure because we can’t say for sure because it takes a number of days for the disease to develop and for the testing to be done. But maybe we got lucky in that wave.”
Dr. Gemmill adds “In the possible circumstance that there is still a wave upon is, I think that people need to keep in place the things that have been suggested and recommended.”
He says that includes personal protective measures such as hand washing, not touching your face, hand sanitizer and staying home if you are sick.
Dr. Gemmill notes “All of these things. They will not only apply now. They will apply, I think, for a good long time.”
The Northwestern Health Unit has completed 2,297 tests, with 1,596 tests coming back negative and 688 test results pending.
In comparison, the Thunder Bay district is reporting 17 active cases, 58 resolved, and one person has died from complications.
