Local communities are adjusting to a provincial decision to reopen Community Gardens.
The Dryden Community Garden Committee asks the public to remain patient as they work with the City and the Northwestern Health Unit to implement measures to ensure gardening can be done safely this year.
Officials say the garden will remain closed for at least two to three more weeks.
Planting in the garden normally takes place from late May to early June, so the closure isn’t expected to impact the growing season.
The Chief Administrative Officer in Sioux Lookout says they are in discussions with a member of the Environment Committee to possibly allow access to the Community Garden to prepare the site for the upcoming season.
Red Lake Mayor Fred Mota says they have been following provincial and federal guidelines to date and they would like to continue with that trend.
Mota says the municipality will re-introduce their community gardens back to residents as long as COVID-19 guidelines are followed.
Ear Falls Mayor Kevin Kahoot says their garden will also reopen and the public will be required to follow physical distancing rules.
The province says the gardens must meet certain recommendations like physical distancing, along with cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces.
