A call is being made for the province to save intercity bus service in northern Ontario.
The plea is being made by Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell following a decision by Kasper Transportation to suspend transportation services.
Officials with the company stated it wasn’t fiscally viable to continue operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monteith-Farrell stresses the service is critical for seniors and rural communities across the region, stating the decision will leave families and businesses without an essential lifeline that connects communities.
“Many people in Northern Ontario, whether it’s a senior who needs to pick up medications or a freight business that relies on it for shipments, will suffer without this vital transportation service.”
The NDP member has written to Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney to urgently step in and provide support.
