New Gold continues to ramp up operations at its Rainy River mine after taking a two-week shutdown for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Executive Officer Renaud Adams says for now the company is utilizing mostly workers who live in the immediate area, which accounts for about 70% of the total workforce.
However, Adams says “As we advance we need to bring more specialized employees and contractors so we can execute our capital project and also continue to ramp up operations back to normal.”
He says the crisis has led to ways of improving the health and safety of everyone.
“We are currently actively engaged in initiatives to bring some testing capacity at our site. Which we believe is crucial to significantly to improve our health and safety protocols.”
Adams says the only activities still suspended are on the exploration side of things.
