The Northwestern Health Unit says there has been no community spread of COVID-19 in Kenora.
A second case was reported in the City this week.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Gemmill says staff have done a comprehensive test of local contacts.
Dr. Gemmill says they have protocols in place if the virus was spread in a store or local business.
“We would be in there working with the employer and the employee to ensure that contact exposed in the right way at the right time are identified so that they can be quarantined.”
Rumours have been circulating the community that the individual was working at a local business at the time.
Dr. Gemmill says “Somebody gets some misinformation and then it gets repeated from person, to person, to person. I can ensure you that if there were a workplace setting, it’s an area that would require a lot of follow-up.”
There are currently 16 positive cases in our region and 14 people have recovered.
723 tests have come back negative, while health officials are waiting for the results of 337 tests.
Meantime, Thunder Bay and the surrounding area now have 60 cases of coronavirus.
39 cases have been resolved.
The City has now joined most area communities by declaring a State of Emergency.
