A new downtown location in Dryden for the Kenora District Services Board is a familiar one.
The administrative office will be moving to where The Central Hotel previously stood after the new building is built.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall addressed Dryden Rotary members Wednesday in a virtual meeting.
Wall believes this is good for both the KDSB and the community.
“Through partnerships we were able to use provincial and a bit of federal dollars to revitalize a property that otherwise would have had to be paid for by the taxpayers of Dryden.”
Wall says they looked at their options but it made more economical sense to build something new instead of trying to revitalize their current outdated building at 211 Princess Street.
“There’s really no windows. It’s a concrete block. Not complaining but the other piece to it is that the concrete block is starting to fall apart. If you walk to the one side of the building you will see a big hole where all the brick has fallen off.”
40 KDSB staff occupy the current KDSB administration building but that number is expected to drop when the new Land Ambulance Base opens at the old Moose Hall site.
The new office building is expected to be open this time next year.
The KDSB provides land ambulance, childcare, Ontario Works, Affordable Housing and other critical services.
