A provincial state of emergency is expected to be extended another 28 days.
The Ontario legislature will resume this afternoon (Tuesday) for an expedited session.
The priority motion is to extending the Declared State of Emergency until May 12th.
Premier Doug Ford admits people are anxious for life to get back to normal and even squirrelly spending time in self-isolation.
However, Ford stresses he doesn’t want to jump into rash decisions, noting it’s still too early to start lifting any restrictions in the fight against COVID-19.
“We are going to be putting out some modelling over the next short while and that will really determine which way we go. I want to be cautiously optimistic but I just don’t want to think ‘OK, people think that this is done.'”
Ford says he will be following the advise of his medical team as well as meeting with Industry leaders to determine when the government will start phasing in services.
As for the potential of re-opening schools, Ford stated “Wouldn’t be able to answer that right now. It’s a little premature. We are seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel but still we are going to take the advise of the Chief Medical Officer and our health team.”
The other highlight on today’s brief session at Queen’s Park is a bill with various COVID-19 related measures relating to multiple Ministries including Education, Colleges and Universities, the Ministry of the Solicitor General and Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Ford is thanking the opposition for their willingness to quickly advance decisions that will help protect and support Ontarians.
