The number of COVID-19 cases remains steady in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area but it’s a different story to the east of us.
There are 10 confirmed cases in our area; 4 in Dryden, 2 in Red Lake, 1 in Sioux Lookout, 1 in Rainy River and 1 in Fort Frances.
One of the cases being reported in the district has a primary residence in southern Ontario and has not been to the region since contracting the virus while travelling internationally.
A total of 384 tests have come back negative and officials are awaiting the results of 222 tests.
There are no confirmed cases in Indigenous communities in the Northwest Health Unit coverage area.
In comparison, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit is now reporting 33 confirmed cases.
Seven people recently tested positive and they are now self-isolating.
Six of them got the coronavirus from close contact with another positive case, and the Health Unit is still investigating the seventh person.
They range in age from under 20 to their 50’s.
